Senior Press Officer
Job description
We are looking for an experienced Chief Press Officer to work for a well-established, cutting-edge Public-Sector Organisation in Cheshire.
The post holder will provide professional communications expertise in specialist areas such as media relations and press office; event management; internal communications; online and digital presence; publication production; and campaign management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-Write, advise on and edit a wide range of communications materials.
-As part of the Press Office, provide a pro and reactive print, broadcast and social media relations service responding to media enquiries in a timely manner.
-Provide print, broadcast and social media advice and coaching to senior staff.
-Advise staff on topical and reputation-sensitive issues and handle those issues, ensuring reputational risks and opportunities are spotted early and that action is taken swiftly to minimise or maximise impact.
-Manage, implement and evaluate projects, campaigns, and other communication activities and channels such as research, publications, events, internal communications etc.
-Manage the structure of the website to deliver effective user journeys and advise colleagues who are developing website content.
-Deliver effective internal and external partnership working by fostering good working relationships with suppliers, stakeholders, journalists, press officers, peers etc.
-Confidently present ideas, project plans and updates to departmental, senior executive, corporate and external audiences.
-Contribute to the Communications functional strategy and business plan.
-Coordinate speaker requests for senior staff, identifying opportunities created, and prioritising media relations.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
-Ability to deal with a demanding workload and able to switch priorities at short notice
-Experience of leading/supervising people in a communications environment
-Knowledge and experience of in-house national press office, including pro and reactive media relations
-Proven ability to manage internal and online communications projects including external suppliers and budgets.
-Up to date and in-depth knowledge of social media and online communications design, functionality, technical applications, information architecture, navigation.
-Good knowledge of print, design and production methods.
-Excellent writing ability with style adaptable to suit different communications, tools and audiences including the ability to write clear copy from complex source material.
-Political awareness and understanding, good judgement and decision making and ability to handle sensitive issues effectively.
