HR Advisor Jobs
A Human Resources Advisor is responsible for delivering a wide range of different HR services, using a well rounded knowledge of the field to advise both employers and clients alike.
The main responsibility of a HR Advisor is to offer advice to ensure high standards of HR practice are met within a business.
Responsibilities
HR Advisors report to a HR Manager or Director, and they typically work as the senior hands-on member of a business’ human resources structure. They are hired to advise line management on how to effectively and efficiently filter through candidates and hire new staff. Further, HR Advisors assist line management with employee relations by helping to create disciplinary and rewards procedures that best suit the staff. They ensure all policies are updated and relevant, and that the HR activity is generally running smoothly in the workplace.
Contribute to the development and improvement of HR practices
Advise and assist the process of new policy creation
Oversee the negotiation of employment terms for employees
Conduct employee evaluations and appraisals alongside line management
Work with line management on the recruitment process
Oversee the collection of HR data
Encourage personal development opportunities for employees
Expected Skills & Qualifications
A business degree qualification or equivalent is required when applying for a HR Advisor role, and candidates will also be expected to have a CIPD certificate. Most employers will expect candidates to have gained at least one years’ experience in the field of HR prior to the application. This can include sectors such as recruitment, finance or administration.
Interpersonal communication skills are essential for this role, as HR Advisors work with a variety of different people across a business.
CIPD qualified
Understanding of contemporary HR systems
Fluent in modern IT programmes, eg. Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel
At least one year of experience in an HR department
Practical and determined approach to problem solving
Strong organisational skills
Strong administrative skills
Commitment to personal development and acquiring new knowledge
Salary
The average salary for a HR Advisor in the United Kingdom is currently around £30,000 per year. The entry-level salary currently averages at around £27,000 per year. More experienced candidates can hope to earn upwards of £50,000 per year.
Career Progression
Following on from a successful stint as a HR Advisor, and with the relevant years of experience behind them in this role, candidates can progress upwards towards a management role in the team they are a part of. Progression in HR is very fluid and there will be plenty of opportunities to specialise in a specific area along the way.
