Marketing Managers are responsible for promoting a service, product or brand and oversee all of a company’s marketing activity.
Responsibilities
Work closely with external agencies to deliver marketing campaigns
Perform market research studies to gather brand data
Recruit and manage a team of assistants to execute campaign work
Develop strategic campaigns for business growth
Identify new business opportunities based on customer demand
Report on key performance metrics to senior management
Manage a marketing budget
Expected Skills
A confident communicator at all levels of seniority
Degree-level written proficiency
Often requirements for specific marketing software
Excellent problem-solving ability
Rapid learner who is able to react quickly to business needs
Exceptional analytical skills
Fluent with the entire marketing mix
Superb time management and multitasking skills
Strong attention to detail and organisational capability
Knowledge of the design process
Qualifications
Marketing Managers typically have a degree in Marketing, Advertising or similar. It is possible to gain equivalent industry experience by starting as a Marketing Assistant and learning on the job. You would usually need 5+ years industry experience for a Marketing Manager position.
Salary
The average salary in the UK for a Marketing Manager is £24,000 - £49,000 p.a. These roles often have a bonus or commission scheme in addition to a base salary.
Career Progression
Marketing Managers often go on to work at International level for large corporations, take on the role of Marketing Director or decide to work freelance as a Consultant for several brands simultaneously.
