PHP Developer
Responsibilities
PHP Developers are responsible for developing websites for external clients, using their advanced PHP and MySQL skills.
Understand business requirements and put them into practice as part of the development process
Build and maintain PHP-based applications
Build and maintain database systems
Write legible, quick PHP to a high standard
Test and troubleshoot the databases and applications
Assist Senior staff in the establishment of overall company practice with regards to web development
Have a good understanding of, and work towards the industry best practices
Expected Skills & Qualifications
Candidates must have a strong knowledge of PHP frameworks, and proven software development experience. A degree in Computer Science or Engineering is commonplace for this role. Full skills and experience includes:
Previous PHP programming experience
A strong understanding of open source projects
A knowledge and understanding of HTML5, CSS and Javascript is highly appreciated
An appreciation of best practice, and a desire to work within these guidelines
Flexibility, plus exemplary time management skills
Strong communication skills
Salary
The average salary for a PHP Developer in the United Kingdom is currently around £45,500. The beginning salary currently averages at around £23,000 per year. More experienced candidates can hope to earn upwards of £40,000 per year plus bonuses, but all of this depends on the size of the business and the projects they are working on. (via Reed March 2022)
Career Progression
Progression from the role of PHP Developer sees candidates either enter into a Senior role within the agency or organisation, or transition away from coding and into technical Project Management.
