HR Assistant Jobs
Human Resources is a rapidly growing field offering lots of opportunity. An HR Assistant role is the ideal place to take your first steps on the HR career path. The job description can vary greatly, depending on the size and type of organisation, but in most HR Assistant roles you will be a member of the HR team, playing your part in delivering all or most of the following services for your employer:
Recruitment
Training and staff development
Compliance with employment law and other regulations
Safety and wellbeing in the workplace
Grievances, disputes and disciplinary issues
Dismissals and redundancies
Employee benefits and payroll
Measuring and improving productivity
Minimising absenteeism
Operating the HR system and database
Promoting productivity and staff morale
Requirements for the role
Along with a keen interest in forging an HR career, most employers will ask for education to degree level and familiarity with IT systems. You will be required to learn on the job, taking CIPD or other relevant courses and qualifications. Your personal qualities should include good written and spoken communication skills, excellent people skills, attention to detail and reliability with confidential information.
Progression within HR Assistant Jobs
As a HR assistant you’re likely to be at the beginning of your career path within HR. You can often look at a HR Manager as the next step in your career with a little more responsibility than your current day to day. That is a direct promotion however. A successful HR assistant demonstrates skills that are transferrable between departments, showing skills in managing people, providing support where required and having experience of working to guidelines. You’ll also have worked within a team and as such you’re used to collaborating. After HR Manager would be the Head of HR, typically within this sector, progression is defined by the number of people within the business so if you’re growing and you’re performing well, you have the ability to progress.
