SEO Manager in Manchester or London | About the Role
As a SEO manager you could work for an organisation, agency or as a freelance consultant in almost any industry.
It is your role to lead a team of SEO executives and manage the review, development and implementation of robust SEO strategies which complement the marketing activities of your organisation and achieve the commercial business objectives of your employer or client.
Typical Responsibilities for the SEO Manager role
As the SEO manager, your responsibilities will vary depending on the requirements and scale of your employer or client, however you will generally be expected to fulfil the following duties:
Leadership
This is a management role and as such, you will need to be an effective leader and decision maker who can inspire a team of personnel to develop creative, technical SEO services that deliver results.
You will need to be a skilled communicator who can listen to the needs of clients as well as personnel from various organisational departments or external agencies and develop challenging yet deliverable SEO campaigns which support their business goals and capabilities.
You will need to identify and recruit talented SEO executives, delegate tasks and oversee the day-to-day handling of any SEO campaigns to ensure performance targets are met or exceeded within planned budgets and timescales.
You may also be required to represent your employer or client at business pitches or conferences and write original, engaging SEO content which demonstrates that as an individual and an organisation, you are an industry leader.
Research
You will need to assess the performance of any existing SEO strategies across a variety of channels, possibly on a number of campaigns at any one time, and develop plans to enhance the SERPs and web traffic they generate.
You must conduct extensive market and keyword research, gain competitor insights, identify commercial opportunities and consistently maintain your knowledge of social media and consumer trends to ensure that your departmental SEO plans and practices capitalise on them.
Project Management
You must use the findings of your analysis to establish SEO performance targets, develop a strategy and oversee its implementation by providing SEO personnel with clear, planned directives that support organisational and industry best practice guidelines.
Salary Range
Depending on your experience, level of responsibility and the location you work it, you can expect to earn £24k to £48k+ as a SEO manager, plus receive generous benefits and bonus packages.

Qualifications
Formal qualifications are not required for this role but a degree or equivalent professional certifications in marketing or business management may be advantageous.
