Graphic Designer Jobs
Responsibilities
Graphic Designers are responsible for designing graphics to be used in media products. They are often part of a wider digital marketing team and therefore report to a Digital Marketing Manager or Creative Manager. General responsibilities include:
Develop design briefs and follow through on them efficiently
Liaising with clients, or the subsequent Account Manager, to understand the business objectives
Develop graphics and designs based on the design brief
Quote clients, or work with the Account Manager to do so, based on the time taken to finish a project
Work with a wide range of media products
Express a commitment towards personal development and the acquisition of new design skills
Expected Skills & Qualifications
Although entry at a Junior level is not specific to those who have a Higher Education qualification, preference may be for those who have a degree in Graphic Design or Art. Candidates will be expected to display a portfolio of past work, and this portfolio should display a sound knowledge. Full skills include:
Superb IT skills and a fluency in using design software such as InDesign or Adobe Illustrator
Creativity and innovation are what sets Graphic Designers apart
Good time management and organisation skills when working to a deadline
An appreciation of client goals and objectives
Meticulous proofreading with regards to text copy
Salary
The average salary for a Graphic Designer in the United Kingdom is currently around £22,000 per year. The beginning salary currently averages at around £16,00 per year for Junior positions. More experienced candidates, or those who have been in the position for a number of years, can hope to earn upwards of £30,000 per year plus small bonuses. (via PayScale)
Career Progression
Following on from a successful stint as a Graphic Designer, candidates may progress into a Senior Graphic Designer role – however, based on the experience gained, it is not uncommon to see Graphic Designers transition into Web Design or Development.

Building your career in Waterloo
While Waterloo is known for its behemoth train station, there is a lot more to this South London district. The area is rich in world-class restaurants, classy cocktail bars and magnificent theatres. Plus, being so close to South Bank and attractions like the London Eye, visitors and locals alike never run out of fun things to do.
Commuting to and from Waterloo is a breeze as it’s served by the Jubilee, Northern, Bakerloo, Waterloo and City tube lines (as well as the Waterloo train station which offers easy access to major cities like Manchester and Liverpool). For those looking for a permanent place to settle, there are lots of modern apartments and loft-type conversions to choose from.
