A business analyst is typically an IT role focused on improving operations that fall under the IT umbrella. Usually, they will offer consultation to management to help the company become more effective by improving efficiencies via systems and programs. As an Analyst, strong research skills are highly regarded as it’s important to keep on top of the latest trends and releases to implement successful solutions.
Responsibilities
Identify business trends using real data.
Highlight areas for improvement.
Compile analysis reports to be delivered to key stakeholders.
Advise senior managers based on the reporting.
Create and test solutions.
Provide staff training of implemented systems.
Expected Skills & Qualifications
Superb grasp of maths
Usually a degree/masters in a related technical field
Advanced SQL database management or similar
Detailed analytical abilities
Demonstrable experience in user testing
Project Management skills/qualification
Able to work under pressure
Be a leader and possess good interpersonal skills
Have an excellent understanding of business environments
Salary
On average, the expected salary for a Business Analyst role is £36,000 however this can vary from £24,000 at entry level up to £55,000 for a senior position.
Progression
You could move into a senior analyst role, before progressing as a Technology / Enterprise / Systems Architect. Often Business Analysts can move into more commercial roles as their position greatly impacts overall business success, or into senior IT roles such as Chief Technology Officer.
