About the Role
Umbraco is described as one of the “world’s friendliest CMS” platforms and it is the choice of over 400,000 websites for content management. Becoming an Umbraco Certified Developer means developing a sound understanding of Umbraco best practices, and having an ability to implement an Umbraco website from scratch.
Specific responsibilities are often determined by the projects that the Umbraco Developer is working on, however generally speaking:
Generate website storyboards into full functional websites with an Umbraco CMS
Use efficient, industry standard coding to develop the site
Collaborate with the other developers in the team to produce the stakeholders’ vision
Test and troubleshoot the website and its applications
Test the website for mobile responsiveness issues
Fix any bugs that have been flagged by testers or the stakeholders
Assist Senior staff in the establishment of overall company practice with regards to web development
Have a good understanding of, and work towards the industry best practices
Be committed to personal development
Expected Skills & Qualifications
Candidates should express an enthusiasm web development in general, grounded by a solid previous experience managing and developing Umbraco websites. Candidates must be well versed in contemporary coding languages and practices. Exemplary time management skills will help set candidates apart, as with that comes the ability to manage projects and deadlines.
There are a number of core skills required for this role:
A strong knowledge of the Umbraco CMS framework with proven experience
Write legible HTML5 and CSS to a high standard
Solid understanding of object-oriented programming work
Familiar with design patterns and putting them into development practice
Experience with the contemporary web application frameworks
Good communication skills and troubleshooting techniques
The average salary for an Umbraco Developer in the United Kingdom is currently around £45,000 per year. The beginning salary currently averages at around £30,000 from Junior Developers. Experienced candidates, or those who have been in the position for a number of years, can hope to earn upwards of £60,000 per year. (via PayScale)
