Bid Manager​

Responsibilities

Essentially, Bid Managers oversee the process of an organisation preparing and submitting a bid to win a contract. They must remain commercially aware at all times.

  • Deliver compliant, sound bids on time

  • Prepare and subsequently review all commercial aspects of a contract bid

  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders and encourage contributions from different company sectors, to go towards the final bid

  • Manage the bid budget

  • Arrange and document post-bid reviews with relevant stakeholders and customers

Expected Skills & Qualifications

Candidates applying for a Bid Manager role must have a proven capability in delivering continuous, successful opportunities for organisations. They must possess an experience of bid management and campaign strategy, and they must be well versed in the entire process from opportunity identification through to bid delivery. 

  • Superb organisation skills are essential. The bid process includes very clear deadlines, and these set the pace for the workload in this role. Bid Managers are also responsible for the time of their team, and must be able to set their tasks in accordance with these deadlines.

  • Bid Managers have to possess a strong awareness of commercial factors. They must be able to understand the objectives and requirements of the purchaser they are working for.

  • Communication skills must be exemplary. Verbally, candidates must possess the ability to present back on their proposal. Candidates must also be able to communicate in written form and develop efficient communication channels including internally between their team.

  • Candidates have to be commercially and financially aware. The proposals must make sense for the purchasing organisation in terms of profit.

Salary

The average salary for a Bid Manager in the United Kingdom is currently around £37,000 per year. The beginning salary currently averages at around £25,000 per year for Junior positions. More experienced candidates can hope to earn upwards of £55,000 per year plus bonuses, but all of this depends on the size of the business and the gravity of the role. (via PayScale)
