The days of stand alone 'old fashioned' recruitment styles are
over. Not many would even consider sending a paper based CV in
application to a job (unless it was specifically required). But
nowadays, there are so many avenues to choose from, how do job
seekers know which is the best way to turn?
I recently made my first placement entirely via social media
channels. Well, Twitter.
Honestly? I hated Twitter when it first came out. It just bugged
me, I mean, what is the point of posting status updates up to 140
characters that tell no one anything and achieves absolutely
nothing? Then, with a combination of me discovering the PR and
Social Media markets as a personal interest and Twitter taking off
from a business perspective, I was turned. And hooked.
Follow the right people and the right people will follow you (on
the whole!). Within an environment where barriers and formalities
are taken away but still kept at a professional level, who wouldn't
want to interact with someone who could potentially help them out?
That's how I found my candidate.
I interacted, exchanged contact details, met, sent for interview
within 2 days and had an offer on the table within 7 days. So to
answer the original question? In the words of a tweet from said
candidate shortly after her offer:
'…. Job hunting via Twitter, it's the way forward people!'
Says it all really.
