So how did you find the summer of 2011...?
Did you get your golf handicap down to single figures, fall into
the trap of bemoaning the British weather, manage a bicker-free
family holiday to France...or did you stick to that promise of
landing a new job or promotion?
For some, the summer months have passed slowly as you've
tirelessly sought to land that elusive new job or secure the long
awaited promotion that your business has been promising you.
For us, similar aforementioned frustrations have befit the
recruitment industry as the seasonal grind to a nigh on halt took
hold as the holiday season fell upon us and business leaders took
their long awaited summer holidays en famille.
However, the August Bank Holidays mark the end of yet another
'sizzling' summer and we can all refocus our energies with renewed
vim and vigour.
I'm a great believer in setting goals and objectives in all
aspects of my life, whether they be business or pleasure. I also
believe that this level of focus and commitment is required when
looking for a new job so that you can ensure you spend your time
and energy wisely and get the returns you are seeking.
You can find yourself getting bogged down during the search for
a new role so try and keep the following principles at the
forefront of your mind when you are actively looking
Refresh your Cv, make sure all your pertinent USP's leap out of
the page and tailor it for each application.
Keep an active eye on the business press to see who is posting
positive news about themselves.
Most importantly, maintain regular contact with recruiters so
you are front of mind when a new role arises. If you've not met
your recruiter, how about grabbing a coffee and half an hour of
their time so you are at the tip of their fingers when an opening
arises. When there are more candidates in the market than
there are job opportunities, you need to demonstrate a level of
commerciality and a point of difference which will distance you
from the chasing pack. This can only be achieved in
person.
In the coming weeks, we will be doing exactly the same as
you. Our aim is to get in front of as many of our clients as
possible so we can understand their business needs and future
requirements so that they will entrust us with finding talent for
them.
How do you know one of these roles won't be the perfect match
for you and your career aspirations?
