'Fire in the belly, Ice in the Mind.'
The Cadbury's 'drumming gorilla'
advert was made here at Fallon…"
I'd forgotten all about that advert, genius bit of
advertising. A silverback gorilla (yes, a real one. Obviously.) on
a drum kit playing along to Phil Collins. Good work Robert Senior,
you have my full attention.
I am sitting in the new (and somewhat warm) auditorium at
the offices of Fallon UK among around 100 like-minded
individuals.
The purpose?
The Marketing Academy 's renowned
'Merlin Lecture'. The man standing
before me? The CEO of SSF Group (Saatchi Saatchi Fallon - a mini
group within the Publicis Groupe) for the UK and Europe. With the
creative agency industry being an incestuous yet complex one, I am
intrigued to see what this master of his field has to teach me. As
a founding partner of the world famous advertising agency Fallon
London and now a dynamic speaker on business, creativity and
leadership, I am expecting big things from the next 90 minutes. I
can feel the room buzzing with anticipation as we await a lesson
from the master.
Unsurprisingly, this guy really knows his stuff. 6 A4
pages of notes and a very sore wrist are clear indications of how
fascinating and thought provoking I found him. As can be imagined,
there is quite a lot to tell. Want advice from a global inspiration
on best practices in the workplace for creative marketers, on how
to handle difficult clients and general points of interest from the
lecture? Watch this space…
